An architectural object that identifies a landscape, a landmark for the people of the place, a hood that protects the precious treasure of memory. A hut that by now only contained poetry, brick pillars hanging from the sky, an elusive roof that prayed to dodge its last snowfall. The charm of abandonment is an ephemeral mirage that cannot be sustained forever.

The aim of the commission was to convert this labour tool of our rural tradition into a home. To tackle the project, we analysed and maintained the proportions of the building, we measured the balance between the empty and the full, we embraced the basic structural scheme, idolising its composition of materials.

And we fill the voids with glass and air, creating large windows and porches for social spaces, and windows for bedrooms and bathrooms; we maintain and consolidate all the elements of the building to integrate them into the project and give them a new meaning; we experiment with lime mortar and volcanic clay to make interior and exterior cladding faithful to the existing ones; we use handmade ceramic materials. We strive to be the truth.

And all this, because we would like our constructive act to also emerge from necessity and tradition. Because we would like to graft ourselves onto them. And because, to take a step forward, it is often necessary to take two steps back.
